Family History
It is believed that the McKays are related to Margaret Drysdale, wife of William Heron, as is suggested by the 1861 census. Sophia died when William was very young, her father William McKay was a widower and as she had been living in the Heron household, he continued to be raised there
William Herron McKay was raised by William Herron and Margaret Drysdale and can be found in their household as early as the 1881 census
